SU-IAC Awarded Student Research Award
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office recently announced the second annual IAC Student Research Awards. This year, the AMO gave out two awards and one was to the Syracuse University IAC.
According to the AMO’s website, “the research awards are designed to create incentives for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue assessment-inspired research projects in the areas of manufacturing and industrial energy efficiency.”
SU-IAC students, Jillian Burgoyne, Timothy Castelein and Enrica Galasso will begin working on their research project entitled “Efficiently Reducing Thermal Stratification at Small and Medium-scale Industrial Facilities” under the advisement of SU-IAC director, Dr. Suresh Santanam. The purpose of the project is to develop a better understanding of the effects of thermal stratification and determine the optimal de-stratification strategy, based on fan orientation, number of fans, setup and runtime.
